In The Gospel of Luke, Chapter 6 verse 46 Jesus asks a simple question…. “And why call ye Me, Lord, Lord, and DO NOT the things I say?” He continues on to explain exactly how His Lordship works here on the earth. Right here, in the life you are right now living. (Gal.2:20)
“You cannot DO NOT and call Me Lord!” (James Cole version). The Kingdom of God doesn’t operate that way. Just as a good and faithful servant doesn’t get to pick & choose which of their Lord’s commands they will do, neither “do” we. Disobedience removes us from being under His authority, His power, and His protection. Disobedience always works against the purpose/plan of Our Father in our life, as well as in the lives of the people around us. Not doing what Jesus says, the way He says to do it, will never glorify Our Lord or ever please our Father.
Jesus then calls us by name, whenever He says WHOSOEVER! Anyone and everyone who ‘WILL DO WHAT I SAY’… This is a promise Jesus makes to you and me. Notice in verse 47 there are three things we are told that we must do.
- Come to Him
- Hear what He says
- Do what He says
Seems pretty straight forward. And the results are also.
“I will shew you what he is like” This is exactly how your life will go if you do or if you do not the things I say! These are two different types of people, notice how both groups “call/claim” Jesus as their Lord; both build a house.
Apparently, both houses appear to be well built and are fine examples of Christendom. THE difference cannot be seen until the storm of life arises and demolishes the house of the one who didn’t follow the plan, who didn’t see the need to build to God’s code.
It is only when the storm comes with all of it’s fury and power and force that the value of having laid a foundation of salvation and faith in God’s Word is revealed and made evident. Hebrews 1:3 tells us that God “…upholds all things by The Word of His Power”. He’s promised that He’ll certainly uphold and keep His children. In Luke chapter 8:21 Jesus states that His family are those who “hear The Word and do it”. And again in Luke 11:28 He says “…blessed are they that hear The Word of God and keep it”.
The good news is that;
- You are who God says you are.
- You can do what God says you can do
Remember, God knows what He’s doing and you don’t! Jesus is The Way, The Truth and The Life. (John 14:6) He continues in the 15th verse to say, “If you love Me, keep My commandments”. The life God has for you to live is here right now. Decide in your heart today that you are now “…a doer of the word and not a hearer only” (James 1:22)
Become that new Creation in Christ Jesus and let the old ways pass away and take hold of the new, The life God has for you right now!
Have a strong day in the Lord!
